Near future
Talk about plans and actions expected soon with the everyday aller + infinitive construction.
When to use it
Use it for an intention, a plan, or something about to happen. It is especially common in conversation.
How to recognise it
Look for a present-tense form of aller—vais, vas, va, allons, allez, vont—followed by an infinitive.
How to form it
Conjugate aller in the present, then add the infinitive: je vais parler. With a reflexive verb, put the reflexive pronoun before the infinitive: je vais me lever.
A simple rule
Only aller changes. Keep the main verb in the infinitive, including irregular verbs: on va faire, nous allons avoir.
Examples
Je vais me coucher.
I am going to bed.
