Verbly

When to use it

Use it when speaking to tu, nous, or vous: écoute, allons-y, regardez. The subject pronoun is normally omitted.

How to recognise it

The verb often starts the sentence and has no subject before it: viens, prenez, finissons.

How to form it

Use the tu, nous, and vous forms of the present. For many -er verbs, the tu form drops the final -s: tu parles -> parle.

A simple rule

With object pronouns, word order changes in positive commands: donne-le, parle-moi; but negative commands keep the normal order: ne me parle pas.

Examples

Parle plus lentement.

Speak more slowly.

Finissons le travail.

Let us finish the work.
